Our story
The name ‘Sakhejung Tea’ has been derived from the name of the village ‘Sakhejung’ where the tea processing unit and tea garden is situated.
Our founder, Milan Kumari Khatri was born and grew up in a family of farmers. When Milan initially started tea farming, there used to be decent returns and when others saw this, everyone started farming tea leading to a loss in revenue.
Due to this we started manually processing tea at home and started selling handmade tea directly to passersby. This was easier since our farm was next to the highway. Since orthodox tea was new to the market we also started providing samples to people. Slowly due to word of mouth we had people coming looking for us and also generated a good number of repeat customers.
Over the years we have added new advanced machines, new buildings, and have also generated more local and international interests..

Garden Elevation
Tea plants around the Sakhejung region are planted at high altitudes, ranging from 6000 ft to 6500 ft from sea level, probably the highest tea gardens in the world. At these high altitudes tea grows slower and the fields are protected by towering peaks.
Currently we have 84 Organic Certified tea farmers in the region entirely comprised of small holders, with the average size of a farm less than an acre. The biodiversity, topography and organic matter-rich soil place our teas in a unique position.
The small hardworking tea growers of the region have amazingly adapted to the circumstances and have learned the methods of producing tea both agriculturally and industrially.
