Soy schemes benchmarked for sourcing “conversion-free” soy

ITC has completed the process of benchmarking 20 soy schemes against the European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation Soy Sourcing Guidelines.

TC has completed the process of benchmarking 20 soy schemes against the European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation Soy Sourcing Guidelines.

The benchmarking exercise is timely given that the European Union (EU) is planning to adopt a new regulation on deforestation-free products, by which only deforestation-free commodities (including soy) can enter the EU market. The majority of the benchmarked schemes have criteria for conversion-free soy, which means that only soy that is grown on land that was not converted or deforested can be certified to these standards.

The benchmarking process included analysis of environmental and social criteria of schemes, their audit and verification practices as well as information on supply chain models and collecting carbon footprint data. All the information on benchmarked schemes is available on a dedicated platform.
