About HIMCOOP

Himalayan Cooperative (HIMCOOP) is a marketing cooperative established in 2003 and initiated by HOTPA (Himalayan Organic Tea Producers Association). It currently represents 22 Tea producing industries in Nepal.

With an average tea garden of a tea producer as small as 0.6 hectares, HIMCOOP works with tea producer to plan and produce consistent tea grade which enables tea producers to export in mass making Nepal Tea much more likely to meet the demand.

Promoting Nepali Orthodox Tea Brands

HIMCOOP has been successful in establishing several international market linkages and diversifying exports of orthodox tea.

It promotes the Nepal tea brand as well as its member tea producers by participating in numerous trade fairs and tea events.

Promoting a santuary for Tea Cultivation in the Mountains

A landlocked country, nested between China and India, Nepal is home to Mount Everest and o of the 10 highest peaks in the world. At the foothills of the majestic mountain ranges lie tea gardenswhich produce premium Himalayan Tea exported around the world.

HIMCOOP works to promote this tea culture by organizing events like “Tea Tasting in Everest”.

Enhancing Tea production through Technical Assistance

One of the most impactful methods HIMCOOP helps companies is by providing several types of technical assistance to its members.

Sampling Assistance

With international logistics fees skyrocketing, HIMCOOP provides assistance to its members in sending samples to different buyers around the world

Buyer Searche

HIMCOOP carries out new and promising buyer search on behalf of the member tea producers to enable best price for the production of the members

Global Trends

HIMCOOP as a direct connection to the global marketplace passes on the key global tea trends and information to its members and tea producers in Nepal.

Quality Control

HIMCOOP also aids tea producer get certified with various quality and organic standards to ensure quality tea is shipped every time.

Collabooration with the ITC

HICOOP has collaborated with ITC’s Sustainability Map project to help companies with the following objectives:

Objective 1

Empower companies and partners to implement digital marketing tools as part of their business strategy

Objective 2

Assess and recommend interventions needed for the companies through field and factory visits

Objective 3

Develop required digital assets for companies to showcase their products, brand and story behind the tea consumed by end consumers on ITC’s sustainability website

Sampling Assistance

The listed companies were also provided with sampling assistance. As a part of tracing the producer, the project envisioned and designed packaging with QR codes.

These QR codes link back to the company profile of the participating companies maintained at ITC’s Sustainability Map website, enabling buyers and end consumers to learn more about the story behind the tea they consume.
